Former England cricket captain Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff has broken his silence about the accident that landed him in the hospital during the filming of the popular motoring show "Top Gear."

In a recent video posted by the England Cricket team on social media, Flintoff was captured presenting an England cap to current spin bowler Tom Hartley ahead of his debut last month. During his speech, Flintoff expressed his gratitude for the support he had received since the December 2022 accident.

The crash, which occurred nearly nine months ago, left Flintoff with reported broken ribs and facial injuries. Even now, he still bears visible facial cuts and scars.

In an emotional address to Hartley, Flintoff shared the significance of receiving an England cap, stating, "When you receive this cap, it transforms your life. It's a pivotal moment—life before and life after. It empowers you to stand tall, move swiftly, play with passion, pride, and unwavering belief. You become part of a close-knit family of individuals who celebrate your successes and stand by you during the toughest moments."

Flintoff has largely maintained a low profile since the accident, making a rare public appearance when he attended England's opening one-day international against New Zealand in September. In recent months, he has been working informally with the England coaching staff.

The 45-year-old former cricketer announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2010, at the age of 32, due to a longstanding knee injury. His crowning achievement came in 2005 when he played a pivotal role in England's victory over Australia in the Ashes, ending an 18-year drought against their rivals.

After retiring from cricket, Flintoff transitioned into the media and became a co-host of "Top Gear" in 2019. In February of that year, he had a less severe incident on the show when he crashed into a market stall but escaped without major injuries.

However, in March of this year, the BBC temporarily halted production on the latest series of "Top Gear" following an investigation into Flintoff's December accident.

It's worth noting that Flintoff is not the only "Top Gear" host to have been involved in a high-speed crash during filming. In 2006, Richard Hammond was left in a coma for two weeks after crashing a Vampire jet car traveling at 288 miles per hour. He sustained serious head injuries but made a remarkable recovery and eventually returned to the series.
