Harry Newman Steps In for England in the Tonga Series: Key Updates and Replacements

England's selection for the upcoming Tonga series has been significantly affected by injuries, prompting key changes in their lineup. The super league boasts an array of outstanding centers from teams like Wigan Warriors, Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves, and St Helens, as well as English talent in the NRL with Herbie Farnworth. However, due to unfortunate injuries, the competition for the center positions has been altered.

St Helens has been hit hard by injuries, with Mark Percival, Jonny Lomax, and Alex Walmsley ruled out from the series. Herbie Farnworth, the English center in the NRL, suffered a hamstring injury just before the NRL Grand Final, further depleting the options.

The injury setback has opened a significant opportunity for Harry Newman, the Harry Sunderland Award winner, to make his long-awaited England debut. Newman shared a momentous image of himself receiving the number three shirt from Sam Burgess, signifying his debut.

In addition to Harry Newman, Mikey Lewis is set to debut as well, as confirmed by Hull KR, stepping in for the suspended England skipper. England's coach, Shaun Wane, has been vocal about Newman's talents, emphasizing his all-around skills as a ball carrier and defender. Wane expressed confidence in Newman's growth, indicating that Leeds would benefit from having an improved player.

Unfortunately, Dom Young will not be featuring in the series due to a health issue that has led to hospitalization. This means Tommy Makinson and Tom Johnstone are likely to take the wing positions for England.

Toby King, who is returning to Warrington Wolves after a successful loan spell with Wigan Warriors, is expected to play in the number four jersey. The changes in England's lineup bring both opportunities and challenges as they gear up for the Tonga series.
