In a thrilling Nottinghamshire derby that drew a record crowd of 16,638 to Meadow Lane, Dan Crowley kick-started the host's aspirations with an early strike, marking the largest attendance since their 2018 League Two play-off loss to Coventry. Louis Reed answered back for Mansfield with a first-half goal, following Davis Keillor-Dunn's near-miss against the post.

The game came to life in the second half when Baily Cargill and Aden Flint scored two goals within four minutes, sealing Nigel Clough's Stags' position as the only team across England's top four divisions to maintain an unbeaten start to the season. This remarkable display catapulted Mansfield to the second spot in the league, just a point behind leaders Notts, although their positions could be challenged depending on the day's results.

The long-awaited Nottinghamshire derby pitted Notts, known for their potent attack and flawless home record, against Mansfield, famed for their rock-solid defense and undefeated status this season. It promised to be an exhilarating encounter.

The early moments validated Clough's anticipation of a stern test. Aaron Nemane's excellent work on the right set up Macaulay Langstaff, but his scuffed effort fortuitously fell to Crowley, who converted the loose ball. Keillor-Dunn nearly restored parity with a shot that kissed the post, taking an unfortunate deflection off Notts' goalkeeper Sam Slocombe on the rebound.

Notts exhibited resilience and swiftly found their response. John Bostock's challenge forced the ball out wide, creating an opportunity for George Maris to find Reed unmarked in the box, and he calmly slotted home.

Calum Macdonald's goalline clearance, denying Notts and Crowley a second goal, kept the tension alive at the close of the first half.

The second half belonged to Mansfield. Cargill's header from a corner edged them ahead, soon followed by a third goal from Flint, who pounced on a rebound off the post. With nine minutes remaining, Lucas Akins put the icing on the cake, sealing a resounding victory for Mansfield in this highly anticipated local showdown.

This Nottinghamshire derby not only delighted the record-breaking crowd but also solidified Mansfield's standing as a force to be reckoned with this season.
