Ryan Gravenberch marked his debut goal for Liverpool in an impressive victory over Union Saint-Gilloise during a Europa League clash at Anfield. The summer signing made his mark just before the halftime whistle, capitalizing on a parried shot by Trent Alexander-Arnold, courtesy of Anthony Moris.

In what was initially a subdued first half with few chances, Gravenberch's goal ignited the game. Darwin Nunez missed a golden opportunity for Union Saint-Gilloise as he prodded wide from Mohamed Salah's cross, and Gustaf Nilsson sent a close-range header over the bar for the visitors.

Gravenberch continued to impress, narrowly missing a second goal just after the hour mark when his dipping shot was expertly saved by Moris. Although Union Saint-Gilloise applied late pressure, Liverpool sealed the deal when Diogo Jota slotted in a goal after a swift counter-attack.

While it wasn't a standout performance by Liverpool, it served as a welcome routine win following the video assistant referee controversy in their recent Premier League defeat to Tottenham. Liverpool now leads Group E with six points from two games, a fact that pleased manager Jurgen Klopp, who stated, "Job done." He also acknowledged that there were valuable lessons to be learned from this match.

One of the standout performers of the night was Netherlands midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, who, at 21 years old, demonstrated his immense potential. Although he arrived at Liverpool from Bayern Munich during the summer, he had to bide his time for a starting opportunity. However, this game showcased his versatility, featuring him in tackles, creating scoring opportunities, and notching the opening goal. With a goal and two assists in just three starts, Gravenberch's compelling performance is likely to push him closer to a regular spot in the Premier League.

Reflecting on his achievement, Gravenberch said, "It's great. It feels super good. It was the best goal of my career so far. It doesn't matter [how it comes]. A goal is a goal."

The match also held a special significance for the Mac Allister family, as Liverpool midfielder Alexis faced off against his brother Kevin, who started as a defender for Union Saint-Gilloise. Although Alexis secured bragging rights with Liverpool's victory, Kevin's solid performance played a pivotal role in frustrating the hosts for a significant portion of the match.

Speaking about the family reunion on the pitch, Alexis said, "Today my dad was here, but I am sure everybody in our family was watching the TV, so it was special." Kevin added, "He [Alexis] is the reason I suffer today, but it is a very special moment. Liverpool in the last match came to Belgium. It is our revenge maybe, but today I am only thinking about this game with Alexis and my family, and now it is the best part of the match."
