Patrick Cantlay and Brooks Koepka Maintain Strong Friendship Despite 'Slow Play' Comment

Patrick Cantlay has maintained a gracious demeanor despite criticism from Brooks Koepka, his Ryder Cup teammate, regarding slow play. Koepka expressed his frustration with the pace of play during the final round of this year's Masters, where he finished as the runner-up to Jon Rahm at Augusta National.

During that final round, it took nearly five hours for the last pair to complete their rounds. Despite frequent waits on nearly every hole, much of the blame for the sluggish pace was attributed to Cantlay, who was playing in the group ahead alongside Viktor Hovland.

Koepka didn't mince words, saying, "The group in front of us was brutally slow. Jon went to the bathroom like seven times during the round, and we were still waiting."

When asked whether this issue might affect team dynamics in the United States' team room at Marco Simone, Cantlay brushed off any concerns, stating, "Not from my part at all. I think, looking back at his comments, it was more about the pace being slow in general. So, no, it's not a big deal at all, and I'm his biggest fan this week."

Cantlay also made it clear that he wouldn't be bothered if he became a target for European fans due to his slow play, saying, "It would be great. I don't mind. Any of that stuff, I think in this format, really adds to the event's character. I mean, you want people to be passionate and try to get under your skin in this tournament, so I'm looking forward to it."

In summary, Patrick Cantlay remains unfazed by the criticism and is focused on contributing positively to the Ryder Cup team, while also embracing the spirited atmosphere that comes with the event, even if it means becoming a target for opposing fans.
