English golfers Tyrrell Hatton and Matt Fitzpatrick, along with their compatriot Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy, are sharing their strong motivations as they prepare to regain the Ryder Cup. Their collective determination stems from the painful memory of the record-breaking 19-9 defeat they suffered at Whistling Straits, where they lost their grip on the prestigious trophy. Seven members of the current European team, including the mentioned quartet, were part of that humbling experience.

Each player has their unique perspective on what drives them this week at Marco Simone in Rome, but they all share a common goal.

Tyrrell Hatton expressed his desire for revenge, saying, "Ultimately, deep down, you want to get some revenge. We have a fantastic team, and we will be giving it our all to make that happen."

Matt Fitzpatrick, though a major champion having won the US Open last year, has yet to secure a win in five Ryder Cup matches over two editions. He sees the disappointment at Whistling Straits as motivation, saying, "Realistically, if we just won by a point, I don't think it matters; as long as we win, I don't think we are bothered. But we all want to win it back regardless of what happened last time."

Fitzpatrick also expressed his growing faith in his teammates, noting that the team's strength has become more evident as the Ryder Cup approached.

Rory McIlroy, the world number two, was deeply affected by the defeat in Wisconsin, particularly after his only point came in the Sunday singles. He admitted, "I don't mind being vulnerable; it's a very natural human thing to do. Whistling Straits was probably one of the most vulnerable times of my career." However, this vulnerability has made him more determined to set things right this time.

Tommy Fleetwood shared how watching the Americans celebrate on the 18th green at Whistling Straits was a motivating experience, one they don't want to repeat.

Viktor Hovland, ranked fourth in the world, believes that they all have a point to prove after the previous thrashing, stating, "I think we all have a bit of a chip on our shoulder; we want to show what we can do. I am sure the Americans think they can show up here and do the same thing again, but we're going to do everything we can to stop that."
