Barcelona's La Masia academy has seen a resurgence in producing talent for their first team in recent years, a stark contrast to the situation just four years ago in Catalonia. During that period, Barcelona lost some of their promising young talents due to various reasons, including better financial offers elsewhere. One such talent was Xavi Simons, who made the move to Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in 2019, enticed by a more lucrative package.

However, recent reports from SPORT suggest that Barcelona is still keeping a close eye on Xavi Simons' progress. The young winger is currently on loan at RB Leipzig from PSG and has been making a significant impact in the Bundesliga.

It's worth noting that Manchester City is also closely monitoring Simons, indicating the widespread recognition of his potential.

Nonetheless, there appears to be disappointing news for Barcelona's administration. SPORT's report reveals that PSG has been impressed by Simons' outstanding qualities and has decided to invest in his future. They believe that his experience in Germany will help further refine his skills, with the expectation that he will be ready to join PSG's first team by the 2024-25 season.

This development suggests that a potential transfer back to Barcelona or Manchester City is unlikely. PSG seems determined to retain Simons, even rejecting offers from RB Leipzig, who are currently nurturing the player's talent.

Simons' journey has been marked by a few twists and turns. Initially, he was considered one of the most highly-rated young prospects, but during his time at PSG, he saw limited action, featuring in just 11 games. He subsequently left for PSV Eindhoven on a free transfer, where he had an impressive season, scoring 22 goals and providing 12 assists in 48 games. This performance prompted PSG to reacquire him.

Currently on loan in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, Simons has made a strong start to his career in Germany, tallying three goals and four assists in nine matches.

While links between Simons and Barcelona have persisted, PSG's commitment to his development suggests that they are unlikely to entertain offers from any club in the near future, including Barcelona and Manchester City.
