Dewald Brevis' Second List A Century Goes Unrewarded as Titans Fall to Western Province

In a thrilling One-Day Cup encounter at Centurion on Friday, Dewald Brevis displayed his prowess with the bat by notching his second List A century. However, his incredible effort couldn't prevent the Northerns Titans from suffering a heart-wrenching two-wicket defeat to Western Province.

The Titans found themselves in dire straits at 40-5 within the first 10 overs of the match. It was then that Dewald Brevis (116 runs from 118 balls) initiated a resilient innings recovery, with Donovan Ferreira (44 runs off 41 balls) offering valuable support.

Despite their fightback, the Titans were ultimately dismissed for 217 runs in 41.3 overs. Western Province's bowlers, led by Mihlali Mpongwana (3-47), Beuran Hendricks (2-18), Nandre Burger (2-52), and Dane Paterson (2-46), combined their efforts effectively to stifle the Titans.

Western Province seemed to be cruising towards victory, thanks to Tony de Zorzi's 40 off 44 balls and captain Kyle Verreynne's gritty 56. However, a flurry of wickets injected hope into the Titans' camp. In the end, it was Beuran Hendricks and Dane Paterson who guided Western Province to a win with a comfortable 19 overs to spare.

Among the Titans' standout bowlers, Mathew Boast (3-58) and Aaron Phangiso (2-55) gave a commendable performance.

In another One-Day Cup clash in Potchefstroom, the Central Gauteng Lions posted a formidable total of 304-7, thanks to outstanding batting performances from Mitchell van Buuren (87 not out off 66 balls), Joshua Richards (51), and Ryan Rickelton (52). Their efforts put the North West Dragons on the back foot.

The Dragons' hopes of a comeback were dashed by the brilliant bowling display of Wiaan Mulder (3-29) and Bjorn Fortuin (3-27). These bowlers played a pivotal role in dismissing the Dragons for 229 runs in 43.2 overs, securing a convincing 75-run victory for the Central Gauteng Lions. Raynard van Tonder was the top-scorer for the hosts with 57 runs.
