Vincent Kompany Relieved as Darko Churlinov Recovers from Blood Poisoning

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has expressed a profound sense of relief following Darko Churlinov's recovery after the forward contracted blood poisoning back in June. Churlinov was sidelined for over four months but made a triumphant return during North Macedonia's European Championship qualifier against Ukraine on Saturday.

The 23-year-old's remarkable comeback opens the possibility for him to feature in Burnley's upcoming Premier League match against Brentford this weekend.

Kompany shared his thoughts on the challenging period, stating, "His story was quite scary. We feared for him."

Churlinov, who joined the Clarets from Stuttgart in 2022, has contributed to the club with a total of 13 appearances. Reflecting on Churlinov's ordeal, Kompany revealed the initial concerns, "He got ill, he was really poorly, he lost a lot of weight, lost a lot of muscle."

However, Churlinov's determination, combined with effective treatments and a stroke of luck, facilitated a remarkably swift recovery. Kompany expressed the collective sentiment, saying, "To have him back on the pitches now, I think for all of us, it's a feeling of relief."

As Burnley prepares to face Brentford this Saturday in a 15:00 BST kick-off, they aim to secure their second league victory of the season.
